Practical work at Mimers Hus - Computers

All students at Mimers Hus gains a laptop upon starting the programmes. Material for all courses are comunicated through the intranet called Fronter. The students have to bring their computers to all classes in order to search for material, write assignments, see films etc.

All students work with their own computer.

  1. Its nice that the school offers computers to all students and that it is compulsory to have them in class. Do you find it difficult to maintain a studybalance in class if they use the internet i private purpose?

    1. Normally you see when the students tends to wonder off into a private cyberspace, and then I tend to call them back to what we are doing in class. It is not a great problem, in most classes, but some students have more difficulties then others to keep themselves from looking into Facebook etc.

  2. Do you find it hard to get students to bring their computers to class every time? What do you do when someone is without a computer? My experience is that students often forget them at home, have them repaired due to errors, low on battery etc.

  3. Well, of course that is a problem sometimes. We have extra chargers in case their computers are low on battery, and if some has forgotten the computer at home etc they have to sit with a class mate. We also have a few computers we can lend in case they have some specific work to do individually.

  4. Oh I didn´t know you´re at my "old" school. I recognized it from the laptop´s cover! A very large school if you consider all the students but still very well managed, I think! What´s your opinion?
